Am I wrong

Invitations for my daughters wedding were sent out 3 month in advance. They were addressed to Mr. John & Mrs. Clair Smith who are my Nice and her husband, they have 2 children under the age of 6. They sent back the RSVP within days of receiving the invite, 4 would be attending. My daughter who is friendly with her cousin informed her immediately that the Wedding is for adults that no children were invited other than the ring bearer and the flower girl. The instant reply from my niece was that they would not attend that they had no one to watch the children. They both work & have a daycare provider who watches the kids at her house, On face book they have a normal amount of friends?? She has also called on her father my brother who now will not attend the wedding due to the fact that children were not invited. I told him OK fine, I told my niece that the invite was not a slight on her children but due to the fact that if all my nieces and nephews brought their children we would have to increase our compliment by 68 and these are all young children.

Dear Hurt,

You are not wrong, however the invitations should have stated no children under a certain age or Adults Only. While it is very poor manners to make a fuss over formal invitations especially in when it affects the number of guests included, it is understandable that your niece took it personally. Receiving a phone call to uninvite the children must have felt very personal to your niece. Family feelings are difficult to understand at times. We all must just do our best to love each other.
