Anniversary Party Gift

My husband and I were invited to a 50 wedding anniversary party, the RSVP says "no personal gifts." I was wondering if that meant they would accept a monetary gift given to them or if it would be better to give to a charity in their name. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

Great Question
by: Miss P Etiquette

Dear Invitee,

When an invitation requests "no personal gifts" it means the celebrants do not wish you to give them a gift. However, it is considered proper etiquette to make a donation in their name or in honor of their 50th anniversary. If you know their favorite charity, you may make your contribution there. If no organization is specified and you are unaware of their favorite(s), then donating to a non profit of your choice is also correct.

Thank you for asking this important question!

Kind regards,
