Hello Friend,

It has been quite a while since I've heard the term "unwed mother", especially in connection with party advice. For many reasons it is a lovely idea to give a shower for a woman who is expecting. You will show your support as she begins a new phase of her life, your gifts will help out financially and being the guest of honor will certainly raise her self esteem. If you have a moral judgement regarding her lack of a spouse, perhaps you should decline the invitation but realize that your friend, the grandmother of the expected newborn, will feel hurt. It seems to me this is the time to pitch in and help the situation instead of boycotting the celebration.
