Can you have a long distance shower for a couple and them not attend?

My son and his fiance live in AZ and are getting married there. Can we have a wedding shower in Georgia and the bride not attend? Is that rude? How would you invite people to one?*

Shower

Dear Long Distance Mom,

Now, this is a new one for me! I suppose you can do anything if the guest of honor is in agreement. Are there friends of the couple living close to you? Or perhaps you can co-host a shower in Arizona where you won't attend, but you give financial help?

I also recommend asking the bride to see how she feels about this plan. It is a generous, thoughtful idea and a way to invite your friends who will bring wonderful gifts perhaps? But it may backfire without the support of the couple themselves.

Good luck and best wishes to the happy couple.
