Christmas gift

by Lisa
(Waterbury ct usa)

We have a niece and nephew that we really haven't seen or spoken to in about a year do to their mother disconnecting from us. We sent birthday cards with money in the beginning of the year and they never wished my husband or myself a happy birthday when ours came around. They did not send our oldest a birthday card or gift in August but sent for our other son in October. Absolutely perplexing. This family has caused a lot of problems for my husband and I and we didn't feel comfortable sending gifts. Also the children are both over 20, when would it stop!

Gifting

Hello Lisa,

If this is a question of who should be giving gifts to whom, I have no answer. Gift giving is personal, from the heart and within the budget. If you gave expecting other family members to do the same, then your gift giving is really not a gift but the creation of an obligation. I think it would be wise for all of you to back away from the whole gift exchange situation, thereby letting each other off the hook. That would promote better family relations and certainly better manners for all concerned. Perhaps 2015 will be an easier year?
