Do you reply to cards?

I've received a host of get well cards and feel like I should acknowledge them somehow but wonder what the rule of thumb is regarding that?

Dear Helen,

We do hope you are feeling better now.

There is no expectation on the part of the card sender that there will be a formal acknowledgement to a Get Well card.
When the convalescent person is feeling better, making phones calls to thank close friends who sent cards is appropriate. It is a time to let them know you are feeling better and that their thoughtfulness helped speed your recovery. You need not call everyone the same day or even the same week. Just let your friends know you are feeling better when you are up to it.

Thank you for your interesting question.
