Engagement Party

My husband and I are hosting an engagement party for our daughter and her fiance on December 29th. I am trying to figure out the proper way to suggest that guests bring a Christmas ornament as a gift if they want. I think it's a cute idea, helps guests not fret over what gift to get or whether to give one, and will help the future newlyweds decorate their first Christmas tree together. I have told several close friends about my idea and they all were excited and thought it was a great idea. Is it proper to put something like this on an invitation? Or what would you suggest?

Delightful Idea
by: Ms P Etiquette

Hello Cathy,

What a delightful idea. You may put that right in the invitation unless you are having a truly formal wedding with tail coats. In that case, a slip of paper, tastefully printed, can be inserted into the invitation's envelope. I am sure all your guests will take to the idea and those who want to give more, will do so.

Kind regards,
Ms Practical Etiquette
