Furniture vs Heavy Neighbor

by MaryJo

I live in a condo and occasionally an overweight neighbor pops in. The problem is my barstools have a weight capacity that he greatly exceeds. How do I politely steer him elsewhere if he alights on the stool??

Thank you,

Weight Constraints

Hello MaryJo,

Of course it is never acceptable to embarrass another. Good manners dictates we avoid that at all times if possible. If you think simply telling him you are sorry but your stools cannot hold folks over __________ pounds will not make him feel uncomfortable, then tell him. On the other hand, short of hiding your fragile furniture before his arrival, there is little you can do with him directly.

Thanks for the interesting question, MaryJo.
