go to ex-mother-in-law's funeral or celebrate wedding anniversary

What do you think I should do? My ex-wife's mother passed away. She has been estranged from her parents for 10 years. The funeral is on my & my current wife's wedding anniversay. My ex-wife has asked me to attend the funeral (3 hours away from where I live). My wife says I should not attend funeral because we should be celebrating our wedding anniversary.

Anonymous,

On the face of your explanation, your place is with your wife, celebrating your wedding anniversary. That is the appropriate behavior for a man who is remarried and no long dating or seeing his former wife. Declining the funeral invitation is acceptable.
