Holiday obligations

by Helen
(clovis ca)

My husbands brothers wife recently passed and now my husband wants to invite his brother over for thanksgiving, which I do not mind the brother except he always brings along a friend, and his forty year old son who is divorced and has three children, and a daughter and an additional son who is a loser and drinks to much, all his adult children still live with him. am I obligated to have them all over an cook for these people along with my own large family?

Dear Helen~

My, that is a big crowd! And a dilemna! Being obligated is very subjective, of course. This decision depends mainly upon your relationship with your husband. Having said that, a good chat about how the family will function now that your sister in law has passed is in order. Beside the fact that you do not much care for this branch of the family, your husband is asking you to carry the load. Deciding whether or not you are obligated is now up to you.
