How to handle gifts given to recently deceased.

What is the proper etiquette for handling the items that were gifts given to a relative that is recently deceased ? Should they be returned to each respective gift giver or can they be kept by the immediate family?

Anna,

There is no one answer to this important question. What you do may depend upon the type of item and who was the gift giver. You may want to ask the givers what to do. Perhaps an intimate or very personal item can be returned to the giver as a memento. Some folks would like photos returned if there is no place to display them after one dies.

Thank you for your most interesting question.
