mother in law buys communion dress

by Victoria

Please help,

My mother in law bought my daughter her first communion dress with out including me on anything! She didn't ask me if it would be okay if she did that ,nor if I would like what she bought! My daughter already has her godmother and god father who are my sister and brother in law to do that! Which I'm baffled why she would do this. Should I feel angry and upset with her?! I'm actually furious she did this. Its suppose to be my special moment with her dad and I with her godparents to do this with her and for her.

Communion Dress

Dear Victoria,

Your mother-in-law's actions are certainly contrary to the rules of etiquette and unacceptable by most standards. If we assume she did not know this was impolite but wanted to help, then anger is probably not going to help the situation. On the other hand, if you doubt her intentions were loving, then simply tell her how you feel without being rude and raising your voice. That is also unacceptable. But I do understand your frustration with the situation. She is really out of line with godparents in the mix, if she was aware of their involvement.

Good luck!
