My boyfriends parents didn't buy either one of us a present for Christmas

by Megan

My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost a year now , this was our first Christmas together. We live together and had a huge family dinner at our home this year. My family and his combined. My boyfriends family was aware that we where doing the regular gift giving. They choice not to give any gifts... I'm not sure why this bothered me so much? I found it very awkward when my family and I were giving gifts and his parents seemed to be almost hiding away from us. It was very uncomfortable .

We purchased a nice gift for his parents from both of us , which they were aware of before reserving it.
Is it me , or is it kinda bad edict on their behave to have not participated in some sort of gift exchange? I also want to note that it was not due to any sort of fanatical issues ( they are extremely well off )

Thank you

Gift Giving

Megan,

It seems your boyfriend's parents made the choice not to give gifts. While it may have caused some awkwardness at your lovely family dinner, they are allowed to make that choice. Practically speaking, causing others to be uncomfortable at a social gathering is never good manners. However, please do not take this personally because it is about them and their decisions, having very little or nothing to do with you and your family.
