step dad wants to give back ring given to step daughter at wedding

At my wedding to her step dad he gave her a ring to promise to always take care of her just like her mother for the rest of her life. She was only four at the time. She since has out grown the ring and we have kept it during this time. She now is getting married and my husband wants to some how incorporate giving the ring back to her either through her husband to be or straight to her. Not during the ceremony, but maybe during the rehearsal dinner. He's not sure how to do it or what to say. Any suggestions?

Mom,

Perhaps the ring could be made into a pendant and given in necklace form to her as a wedding present from her step dad. Making a presentation at the rehearsal dinner is fine with the gift a necklace. I believe the "ring" has such a heavy significance at a wedding that it is best to avoid it. You do not want dad to appear to be upstaging the new groom.

Thank you for this interesting question.

Warm wishes to you all.
