sympathy card opening

by Laura Lee Ray
(Lake Mills WI. USA)

I was not invited to the opening of the sympathy cards from my sons funeral. His Stepmother chose this. Also there were several cards addressed directly to me. Which they opened. And gave to me 3 weeks later. Is this not Rude? And how do I confront her? My son was 29yrs old.

Hello Laura Lee,

How sad and thoughtless! I am so sorry for your loss and for the treatment you received at this challenging time in your life. Yes, her behavior was very rude and unfeeling. I do not know the family history so will not try to understand the subtext of this situation. However her choice to exclude you is over. You must accept it as it was. There is no reason to confront her because she already knows what she did. Your anger will only confirm her decision. Keep your sweet son in your heart and memory. Do not let this unpleasantness intrude upon that. Take care of yourself. Let your anger go.

a lil History
by: LauraLee

Thank you for your response. I was so appalled by this! I know I did not mention family History. We always were one big family. And Knowing she was a part of my twins lives I always respected her role. Including sharing the Mother son dance at the Wedding. I did let it go...
Kinda. Still hurts but a bigger scene would have been inapropriat... I pray I hold my tongue!
