Uninvited wedding guest

An invitee to a wedding returned the reply card with the question..." if I bring my three children (all three were invited), but ask two of them not to eat, may I bring my boyfriend (not invited)?

A New Twist ...

Bride to be:

Just when I think I have heard it all.... along came your question! I assume you want to know if this should be allowed?

Besides the request being out of the realm of etiquette reality, the host is being asked to change the guest list with the inference that he/she would have invited the boyfriend if willing to spend the money to feed all five of them. One is not required by etiquette or common sense to comply with this request. The best advice I can offer is to politely and firmly let her know that she and her children are welcome as planned, but the guest list cannot be altered to include the boyfriend.

Whether you are the host or the person making the request, my answer remains the same.

Kind regards,
Ms Practical Etiquette
