what, if anything, should parents do following the first meeting of an adult son's girlfriend?

by Darryl Weber

Our son is 25yoa and has begun to date a very nice young lady whom is very taken by him. The relationship has strong potential, and she was very nervous about about meeting us, wondering if we would like her. Now that the weekend with her is over. Should we do anything, say anything, or send her anything to encourage her? What would be the proper thing to do?

Parents' Role

Darryl,

Your guest is the one who has the obligation to express gratitude. When you speak with her, you may let her know how much you enjoyed her company and are happy she came to visit. But any overt gesture to "encourage" her is unnecessary and not necessarily polite as it may make her uncomfortable.

Thank you for the most interesting question.
