When to correctly use your spouses name on a table card

We were at a wedding recently where my friend's, whose husband was unable to attend, place card was addressed Mrs. her husbands name and their last name. Is that the proper way to address her table card?

Yes, that is proper at a formal occasion when seating a couple. At a less formal affair, using first and last names is correct​ ​. Personally, I don't feel it makes any difference in today's environment where many women do not take their spouse's last name. The options are decided by the host.
