If a couple invite's you to dinner and during the dinner you find out it is their wedding anniversary, who should pay the restaurant bill?

Dear Terry,

There is no obligation for you to pay simply because it is your dinner partners' anniversary. If they expected you to treat, you would have been aware of the special day before the dinner. Offering to buy dessert, though, would be a nice gesture.
