Bat Mitzvah Invite Snafu

by Flummoxed in Florida
(Florida)

My daughter's bat mitzvah is coming up. We sent out invitations, including ones to her friends at school whose parents I have never met. The invite was sent in to her friends name only. However, on the response card her parents put her name "and parents" and indicated 3 were attending. What is the proper way to handle this? I have never met these people and we are having a sit down dinner with assigned table seating.

Bat Mitzvah Invite
by: Ms P Etiquette

Dear Flummoxed in Florida,

Thank you for your question. You should contact the parents and explain that the invitation was meant for their daughter/son only and apologize for the invitation not being clear enough and creating the confusion. I would hope they would understand and the original intent would be achieved. It is important to make it seem that the confusion was on your side so as not to embarrass them.

Congratulations on your daughter's Bat Mitzvah!
