Brother's graduation or Goddaughter's christening?

by Annonymous
(New York)

My younger brother and only sibling is graduating from college on the same day of my goddaughter's (daughter of my best friend) Christening. As her godmother, I am expected to be a part of the ceremony. The two events are at the same time, a 6-hour drive apart, so there is no way to attend both. My brother and I are close and our family is small (just my parents, my husband and I will be attending the graduation). Both my friend and my brother are sweet and reasonable, and will be disappointed but understand if I choose to attend the other event. Which event do I go to?

Dear Anon,

If you truly have no clue to the solution to this problem, then attend the one in which you are a participant. Your brother will understand, I hope.
