Do I have to visit with my 15 yr nieces boyfriend?

My sister thinks I need to vist with her 15 yr old daughters boyfriend. The boyfriend is 18. I feel I have no reason to get to know this boy, nor do I want my own son to think I approve of the age difference. She got mad and has caused a major family issue. Do I have to conform to her controlling way to keep peace with the rest of the family? My sister has told lies about me and my son to our parents, to take the focus off of her poor parenting.

Family Visits

Dear sister,

No, you do not have to meet with your niece's boyfriend. But that does not seem to be the issue. Perhaps focusing on healing the break within the family would be more productive and may even help your sister with her difficult role of parenting a 15 year old girl. Carrying stories to other family members about another member of the family is called triangulation, a very dangerous family dynamic. I wish you good luck and peace within your family.
