Engagement party guest list?

If I am paying for a small immediate family engagement dinner in a private room at a winery for my granddaughter, is it necessary to invite my daughter's ex husband? The rude, abusive, and belligerent man is not her father, but she has two younger sisters by him. My husband and I are not fond of him at all because of his horrible relationship with our daughter since the divorce and the drama he still causes. He can not be at the same Family function without making nasty

Comments. If it's something he throws at his house for the girls we don't usually get invited unless our daughter asks us to go. He is not paying for any wedding nor has he made any financial contribution to the granddaughter since she graduated high school ten years ago. The granddaughter has not lived with him for nearly 10 years. I want a nice elegant dinner with NO drama! We could all do without it!

Invitee List
by: Ms P Etiquette

Dear Grandmother/Grandfather,

No need to invite your daughter's abusive former husband. It is very poor etiquette to ask a person who will make others at the gathering uncomfortable. Just be certain your granddaugher understands your reasons even though this is not her father.

Good luck
