Guests to a Baptism want to skip the ceremony but attend the hosted luncheon?

by Geraldine
(Tucson, AZ)

I asked for an rsvp to attend my daughter's baptism, followed by a luncheon. Some guest have responded that they will "skip" the church ceremony, but will make it for the hosted luncheon at an exclusive location. Any suggestions on how to respond? Not happy with how they responded.

Skipping the Baptism

Dear Geraldine,

This is a sticky question. If you feel strongly that the guests should attend the Baptism in order to attend the luncheon, then you should tell them that. Recognize that you will offend some people and put a strain on the relationship. If you are okay with that, then do what you think is right.

Enjoy your daughter's baptism!
