Should my family attend my husband's sister in law's sister's son's high school graduation party? we've only met him maybe 4 times and my husband's sister in law and brother never attend any of our parties for our son...I know that has nothing to do with my husband's brother's wife's family but it's NOT our obligation correct?

They like to hold grudges and we've been through thick & thin and they are NEVER there for us.

Hello Hannah,

Although I cannot keep the relationships involved organized in my mind, I do have a tried and true solution. Be gracious and cause no harm. If your attending will be upsetting to you or others, graciously decline and send a nice card to the one celebrating. On the other hand, if you do attend you must do so without rancor. Good manners insists we not be the cause of a scene or discomfort when we attend these family events.

Good Luck!
