Honoring my boyfriends deceased wife

by Janice
(Albany, Oregon)

The anniversary of my boyfriends deceased wife is coming up next month. Is it ok for me to order a small corsage or tiny bouquet to place on her urn? Since we've been dating he has moved her urn from the living room into his closet however I feel like I should acknowledge her life and their 20 years together. It was his high school sweet heart and I have no issues with their life together and the memories he has. He gives me undivided attention and has expressed his love for me. He has never made me feel like I'm competing with her in any sense.

Atmosphere of Calm
by: Ms P Etiquette

Hello Janice,

Expressing respect and honoring the memory of a lost loved one is a kind action. However, please discuss it with your boyfriend before you take any action. If he is uncomfortable with your gesture, you must not move forward with the plan. A primary rule of practical etiquette is making certain our efforts create an atmosphere of calm thus avoiding contributing to the discomfort of others.
