House Guests taking over

by No credit needed
(California)

We invited guests who had not where else to go, to share our home until they can get on their feet. They have been here less than a week but take a few too many privileges, The washer and dryer never stop. The kitchen is used constantly but not a dish is washed but left piled up for someone else to handle. There is more of course but you get the gist. Please, Miss Practical Manners, how should we approach this issue.

Sincerely,
Lost in chaos

Boundaries
by: Ms P Etiquette

Dear Generous Friend,

The only avenue open to you is setting out the rules of behavior. Because your house guests have poor manners, you must set the boundaries required for this co-habitation. This is not only appropriate but necessary. If you do not take a stand, you will have no one to blame but yourselves for the chaos. Being a good Samaritan does not mean playing the role of a door mat!

Good luck.
