My mother in law gave us a dining room table.... it is an heirloom and at the time we needed a table and she no longer needed nor had room for it. we promised to keep it in the family, and no one wants it... and we no longer have room for it.... now what do we do with it?? we can't talk to her since she is very hard and has no relationship with my husband. so we can't ask her if she wants it back nor does she have room for it

Hi Charlene,

Thank you for your question. This is a bit of a tricky situation. You already offered it to other family members, and they do not want it. You currently have no contact with your mother-in-law. You may want to offer it back to her and see if she wants it. If the answer is no, then you already have done everything you can to keep it in the family, so you have only one alternative, and that is to donate it and that way it will go to someone who needs it. Probably not an ideal answer, but not sure of the alternatives.

Good luck,

Ms. Practical Etiquette
