Nephew Tom turned down my wedding invitation

by Glo

I went to nephew Tom's wedding 5 years ago as well as his Jack and Jill. Now my last son, Tom's 1st cousin, is getting married. Tom turned down the invitation . He said his daughter is in a dance recital. I say that's only 1 or 2 hrs tops and he can make the wedding. Am I right to feel snubbed and insulted?

Dear Glo,

Congratulations to your son on his impending wedding!

We have received numerous questions on being in the position of conflicting invitations on the same day, both of which they would like to attend and what to do about it. This is the first one going the other way.

It is very good that you have such a close large family. With all of the wonderful things that will occur on that day, why let this bother you? It will only interfere with your happiness. Sometimes, life gets in the way, and people can not attend every invitation. I am sure your nephew would have attended the wedding if not for his child's event. Do not let it destroy your relationship. Focus on the positive and enjoy the magic of the day with your son and new daughter in law.

Congratulations again!
