Nieces birthday party

by Candy
(Fair Haven, Michigan, USA )

My 2 nieces just started having their families. They each had a little girl and on their first birthday, sent out invitations to the small birthday party. I went.. Now they have each had another baby and it's time the their first child's 2nd birthday party. I can't afford it every year. I am a single woman (61) and have 6 of my own grandkids. How do I nicely nip it in the bud before it goes too far. I can't afford 4 more birthdays a year. I don't see my nieces but maybe once a year, and don't buy for any of the other "great nieces or nephews".

Thanks for your help

Hello Candy,

Thank you for your question. This is a common problem in some families. Begin a tradition of sending cards with nice notes to each child on their birthday. You do not have to explain this to anyone, just begin doing it. Large families can be very expensive for well liked relatives who are invited to all the big events. Cards work. Putting a couple dollars in the cards every now and then would be a nice surprise to youngsters too! Use your imagination and have fun with it. Cards can be quite entertaining and loving!
