My boyfriend bought me and his 18 year old daughter the same diamond ear rings for Christmas. I feel hurt and have mixed emotions about this. So my question is: is there any etiquette about this situation?

Christmas Gift
by: Ms P Etiquette

Hi Carrie,

Happy Holidays to you.

That does seem a bit different. When it comes to gift giving, it is at the discretion of the gift giver. Perhaps he was so taken by the earrings that he thought both of you would have seen it as he did … giving such a gift to both very important women in his life. Now, that being said, it is awkward that he gave exactly the same gift to both of you. Perhaps jewelry is not his strong suit.

Try to look past this and think about how you would have reacted had he not given the same earrings to his daughter.
