Reception invite

by Rachel
(Burlington, VT - USA)

I was invited by an Indian co-worker to her son's wedding reception. Her son actually got married in India last year. This "other" reception is for his acquaintances here in the U.S. where he grew up. I have never met this young man or his bride. I cannot attend this reception. My question is - should I send them a gift anyway because his co-worker mother invited me?

Wedding Gift

Rachel,

You are never obligated to give a gift because expecting gifts is poor etiquette. Give from your heart. Because you do not have a personal relationship with the newlyweds, I lovely card with a handwritten note will be fine.
