Register for gifts even tho you already have things?

by Tina Davidson

My sister and her fiancé have been living together for 2 1/2 years and just recently built a new house. He will be 40 and she will be 36 at the time of their wedding. Should they register for gifts?

Registry Gifts
by: Ms P Etiquette

Tina,

There was a time when wedding gifts were meant to help a couple start their new home. However, today couples are more likely to already be sharing a home by the time they invite friends and family to the wedding. This cultural change makes registering for gifts seem less inappropriate. I see no breach of etiquette in this situation but remember, everyone has a choice about gift giving. If this seems inappropriate to one, then simply don't give a gift or give one you choose that isn't in the "register". Thank you, Tina.
