Retirement notice to customers

Dear Miss Practical Manners,

A Mail Carrier is retiring soon and would like to give his long-time customers the courtesy of notice. However he does not wish them to get the impression that he is looking for a gift of any kind. When and how do you advise him to let them know?

Sincerely,
Debbie Cwalinski

Retirement Notice
by: Ms P Etiquette

Hi Debbie,

Thank you for your note. This will be very hard to do, as cynical people will always think that this is a request for a gift. It may be best to do it the week of retirement so there is no time to give a gift and avoid the whole thing.

I wish him the best in his retirement years.

Ms. Practical Etiquette
