Son's cohabiting girlfriend

My son has lived with his girlfriend for almost 9 months now. They live 3-4 hours away from us. We have met her and we think she is very sweet. Friends warn me "Don't get too close to your children's boy/girlfriend because they may one day break up". I'm new to this since he is our oldest child. Do I invite her for holidays and treat the couple as I would if they were married? As far as I know, there has not been talk of marriage.

Rely on Son's Guidance
by: Ms P Etiquette

Let your son be your guide. Including a live-in girlfriend to whom your son is not engaged is tricky. If your son is comfortable exposing her to all the family, then so ahead. But, please let him know your reservations about the situation i.e. they are not married or engaged. Listen carefully to his response and go from there.

Good luck!
