Surprise birthday parties

If you're 16 year old daughter's best friends threw her a surprise 16th birthday party how do you handle it when my sister is angry because her son did not get invited to the surprise birthday party. She's mad at me and my daughter when we did not have anything to do with the surprise party guest list they are so mad they have refused to talk to us and now have disowned us as family members what do I do did I handle it properly I did not reply I've not spoken negative towards her at all she has sent me rude comments and text messages and my daughter however I have not replied back nor I have my daughter to thank you

Dear Mom,

If the surprise party was totally planned by your daughter's friends and was as much a surprise to you as your daughter, then you should explain that to your sister. If she will not listen/believe that explanation, then there is not much you can do.

If you had input into the surprise party, including the guest list, I guess my question to you is there a rule in your family that all cousins have to be invited to parties? If that is the case, then you may owe her and her son an apology. At the end of the day, people are allowed to invite who they wish to invite. Again, did you have input into the guest list. If not, not sure what you could have done about it.
