Two Parties on opposite sides of the state?

by Rachel
(Friendship Heights, Washington D.C., USA)

My friends are getting married on May 18th this year and I'm in the wedding. I'm missing my grandfather's wedding because of the bridal shower being planned for the same day.

Now I've realized that the wedding and my father's surprise 50th birthday party are on the same day. I'm dont know what to do - obviously I'm IN the wedding and both events are only a month away. What is the proper thing to do?

Conflicting Events

Hi Rachel,

You have a full calendar of very happy events and also a very difficult decision. You are part of the wedding party and its your father's surprise 50th birthday. At the end of the day, it comes down to what do you want to do. You have committed to your friend some time back to be part of her big day. It would be awfully hard to pull out at the last minute. I am not sure how you pull out of the wedding at this point. Speak with your mother about the situation and see what she thinks. I think she would direct you to go to the wedding.

Good luck with this very difficult decision.
