Hostess gift?

by Karen

I'm going to a dinner party where there will be 10 guests, I would like to bring a small gift for the hostess. My gift will be a box of chocolates, should i bring a box large enough for all of the guests or can i bring a small box just for the hostess? thanks for your help.

Hostess Gift
by: Ms P Etiquette

Dear Karen:

This is an excellent question!

Over time the distinction between a hostess gift and a dinner party gift has blurred a bit.

Bringing a hostess gift is a thank you for the person giving the function and therefore not related to the other guests at all. Your box of chocolates is a perfect gift and should be small enough for the hostess to understand it is meant for her/him alone.

I do hope you have a lovely party!

Kind regards,
