Attire

by Ms Patty
(Pennsylvania, USA)

My husband and I will be traveling in the south in the fall. My mother who is now deceased was from the south. My question is, do people who live in the south wear white after Labor Day or is that just in the north that we stop wearing white. My mother taught me this, so I'm not sure if that was what they did. We will be going to Savanna GA and Charleston, SC at the end of October and I would like to be a "proper lady".

Thank you,
Proper Lady

Wearing White
by: Ms P Etiquette

Dear Proper Lady,

Both of the cities you plan to visit are very fashionable with well dressed citizens. Having said that, the old rule of no white after labor day has faded a bit, leaving style choice up to the individual. I will say that very few clothes in colors suitable for fall go well with white shoes or handbags, but any other white item is fine, I am sure.

I hope you have a lovely times.
