Baby Shower RSVP

by rachel
(San Diego)

I provided a guest list to my cousin for the purpose of throwing me a baby shower (she offered). At a week prior to the event, my cousin informed me that only a few (10 out of 38) guests had bothered to RSVP. What, if any, is the proper etiquette in this situation? I would like to prompt those who have not responded to do so, if that is appropriate.

Your Cousin's Follow-up
by: Ms P Etiquette

Rachel,

For some reason lately, a majority of invited guests do not respond to RSVP. NOW that is poor etiquette and simply rude.

Your cousin needs to know how many are coming in order to create a proper event. It is acceptable for her to make follow up calls to those who have not sent their RSVP. And shame on the invitees for neglecting their duty to respond by a certain date. Perhaps her intervention will remind them to do it property next time.

Congratulations on your pending motherhood. Enjoy the party no matter who shows up!
