Church AND Party?

My wife's best friend invited us to her sons first communion. The invitation is for attending the Church communion AND the party afterwards. My wife states, she just wants to go to the party. I think it would be an insult to NOT go to the church as well. Am I right in feeling embarrassment by just going to the party?

Attendance
by: Ms P Etiquette

Dear Husband,

It is very inappropriate to intentionally miss the ceremony and then attend the party. Not only is it rude it is highly disrespectful. The party is held to celebrate a significant event in the lives if the hosts. Purposely skipping the ceremony shows one's disregard for the occasion's importance. I cannot imagine treating anyone, especially a best friend, in this manner.

Thank you for writing. Good luck!
