Donating to scholarship fund

Our daughter received a financial scholarship to participate in an orchestra. The organization is having a gala and the tickets are over $250 each. The gala s to raise money for the scholarship fund in which many musicians, including our daughter, have and will benefit. On the invitation, there is an option to donate without attending. Is it appropriate to give a smaller amount with the RSVP or would that be inappropriate? If so, is there an acceptable amount?

Hello Proud Father,

A donation is just that, a voluntary offering. If you are not attending the event then any amount you wish to contribute to the fund is fine. Choose an amount that fits your budget and enclose it with a note of thanks to the gala committee for their efforts on behalf of the scholarship fund.

Wishing your daughter success in her musical ventures,

Ms Practical Etiquette
