My son was sent a graduation gift for high school graduation, however he doesnt graduate until next year. How does he respond?

Dear mom,

Your son should offer to return the gift in a thank you note explaining the situation. The gift giver may insist he keep the gift, in which case he can consider it an early graduation present. Or his offer of returning the gift may be accepted. In any case, he must respond with the truth.
