Funeral Flowers

by Mary Brown
(Atlanta)

My friend's niece passed a few days ago. While having a conversation with my friend she informed me that she was giving her other friends the address to where they could send flowers for her niece's funeral.

Is it appropriate for my friend, to ask that I send flowers to her brother's daughter's funeral?

I just find it very arrogate of a person to ask for something like that.

Thank you,
Mary

Hello Mary~

Your friend's behavior is indeed inappropriate.

A discreet notice in the newspaper or the church bulletin is usual and acceptable. If the deceased's family is asked about funeral arrangements and/or final wishes a suggestion can be made in response. Otherwise, solicitation is rude and never sanctioned by proper etiquette.

Thank you for your unusual question.
