gift giving to the ex???

I have lived with my boyfriend now for almost 5 years .. he has given his ex a Christmas gift every year, along with birthday cards and gifts without telling me and when i have found out he gets mad at me... but is it right? his children are grown ups married with families of their own... so he has no reason to give her a gift other than from his heart. he says he has given her a bird every year for Christmas.. i don't think its right, but I may be wrong.. thanks I am not jealous I just think its out of line...

Hello Mary,

If your boyfriend and his ex wife feel comfortable exchanging gifts, and doing so does not make you jealous, I think you may ignore it. Fortunately, it is not your job to teach your boyfriend good manners and he has a long time relationship with the mother of his grown children. The smart and mannerly behavior would be to leave them alone to do as they please without snooping or checking up on him.
