High school graduation

Is it appropriate for the ex wife to invite her ex husbands family to dinner when her son hasn't even been to her house in two years? I'm the upset step mom who does all for him, and I know I should, but trust me, I can't go to dinner with them. She has allowed too many bad things to happen to her kids for me to even consider having dinner with her

Considerations
by: Ms P Etiquette

Amy,

It is lovely to hear a step mother care so dearly for her step son. He must be happy about you and his life in the family. Is he interested in attending the dinner at his birth mother's house? That is the first consideration. If so, I would hope you will support him by attending yourself. The past cannot be changed but you can make a better present by putting others before yourself, especially in this situation. Good etiquette demands we be civil, not make others uncomfortable and look after those who need it.

I know you will do the right thing.

Congratulations to your step son on the occasion of his graduation.
