House Guest

Iam a college student invited to spend several days at a new friend's home which includes a $3K football ticket to a very sought-after game provided by the dad! I come from very modest circumstances. Do I bring a hostess gift-if so, what would be appropriate? Shd I send a thank you note to Mrs only or Mr & Mrs due to the football ticket? Shd I also send a gift after the visit? What is the appropriate etiquette for this occasion?

Hello Kate~

How fortunate you are to have such a lovely invitation from a new friend. When visiting someone's home for a short stay, a hostess gift or house gift upon your arrival is appropriate. Any small gift will be fine. Perhaps a nice box of chocolates or flowers or bottle of wine if you know their preferences. You can always ask your friend for a suggestion. Once your stay has ended, follow up with a handwritten thank you note to both of your friend's parents as well as anyone one else from whom you received kindness.

Enjoy your coming adventure.
