How should a widow act on a first date?

by Sue
(Tucson, AZ)

I've been a widow for nearly 4 years and am attempting to start dating (yikes!). I've not taken off my wedding ring since we got married, except when he had the diamond upgraded for our 10th anniversary.

Is it improper to wear my ring on a first date when the man knows I'm a widow?

When my husband died, I bought an infinity symbol pendant and have worn it ever since. It contains some of my husband's ashes.

Is it improper to wear that?

Thanks for your time.

Hello Sue,

The answer to your question about your wedding ring brings up another query; are you ready to move forward? If you are, the ring will send the wrong signal to your "date". Only you know the answer to that. As far as the pendant is concerned, wear any jewelry you wish, you do not have to explain the meaning or contents to anyone.

Good luck on your new adventures!
