Is it appropriate for an adult to announce her own graduation?

by Julia A
(New Boston, TX)

I am 45 years old, married with six children, working full time, and I just completed my Masters degree (with a 4.0 gpa). I am participating in the graduation ceremony this December and I want to purchase announcements and send them out to my family and close friends, but my husband thinks this is a silly thing for an adult and a graduate student to do. I guess it is a little braggy, but then again, it's a big accomplishment; one I am quite proud of, and I think I'm entitled to some bragging rights. Is it gauche to send out announcements at my age, or is it appropriate in this case?

Announcements are Appropriate

Dear Julia~

Send the announcements. It is never ill mannered to let people know of your accomplishments and yours are impressive. Aside from the good wishes you will receive, this gives you an opportunity to inspire other women to keep moving toward their own goals.

Congratulations on your amazing success! Enjoy it!
