Should I invite my boss to my pool.bbq party? Co workers are coming.

Should I invite my boss to my pool.bbq party? Co workers are coming, along with former employees of his who left the company on mildly unpleasant terms. Should I invite him, knowing his better judgement than to attend? I don't want him to feel slighted if I don't invite him.

Your question shows your sensitivity to the feelings of your guests which is very nice. And your question is an excellent one. Like blended families, work groups have their own dynamic that at times can be trying.

In this instance, it is proper to invite your boss to your party. He will most likely understand that other employees, both current and past, will attend as well. It will be up to him to decide to join you or not. If he comes he cannot blame anyone else for his discomfort, should that happen. If he declines, you have done your best to include him.

Good luck,
